The only issue with these is that if you need a Windows enviroment it gets really expensive.

If work wanted to buy this then we would need to add some fast disks (database server) then add Windows Small Business and you are soon past £3000 before you look at improving the CPU.

Give linux a couple of years to get some things right and soon they will be able to replace Microsoft

    Yeah - Ubuntu FTW
I thought £2000 for the spec I did was pretty good 2x quad xeons etc, considering the last server I bought from Dell witha similar spec came in at £4500, £700 of that was Win Server lol.
What servers (Dell, HP etc) do you use at Clarke?

we dont currently have a server but we are looking for one. But most of our clients have Dell, some of the servers are really good and well priced. It's just microsoft that bump up the prices.

We are looking at replacing a SQL server at one of our clients, The hardware is 6k but all the licenses bring it up to 20k. Crazy

Yeah it's mental, we use a Microsoft Action Pack, as we are Microsoft Partners we pay a flat fee/subscription per year and we get just about all MS software to run the company on, the only thing we can't use it for is a live web server but all internal PCs are covered.
It's a very good deal really. TechNet Pro is included and everything that includes.

I think it was £265 for the first year.
What do I do, good question I started Limited Edition Solutions Ltd in 2006 to handle all my local PC builds and repairs etc.
I've had a home/company network for years as I put myself through my MCSE I had to have a server and a couple of PCs anyway. My current dual xeon is really getting on now and ideally I would like to run parts of Limited Edition Computers on our own server/s - best to seperate mail and dns servers etc so I gonna start working on it at some point this year.
I can see the shop database getting really big, it's already 500mb and i've only added 50 products lol I haven't even started on the watercooling parts yet.

I just changed the "Coders Corner" section to "Web Developement" as a section to chat about hosting, servers etc so I moved this thread in here.
